Default Greetings from Maryland

Hi,

I'm Mark from rural Harford County, Maryland. My wife and I have a little pocket of land deep in the woods where we keep bees and a handful of chickens. At the moment, we're living in a old but highly renovated repo-ed mobile home that's heated and cooled with geothermal. Our plan in the next few years is to build a house using earth bricks, with the earth for same to come from the soil from the site excavation. We'll be using as much recycled building material as practical, will probably have at least a partial earth roof and eventually, a solar array sufficient to get us off the grid.

Best regards,

Mark

Hi Mark, welcome to Nature2Energy. There are lots of exciting things happening these days in the geothermal arena. Like this guy who has figured out that the Earth makes a great place to store solar energy. Whooda thunk it? I saw the television show he mentions on that page, and was very excited about the idea. I assume you've seen the partially underground houses in Arizona that all use old truck tires filled with earth as their walls? I'll look on youtube later, and see if I can dig up a video of either.

A watt saved is better than a watt generated, since it always costs less than 10% as much, and can cost as little as 1%.
