UNITEN PASSES DYNAMIC WORLD SOLAR CHALLENGE TEST
By From Syed Azwan Syed Ali - Sunday, October 25SendIM StoryPrint.DARWIN (Australia), Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) solar car team today passed the dynamic test for the World Solar Challenge-WSC2009 at the Hidden Valley Circuit, here.
This enables the “Solar Ranger 1” car developed by the university to compete with more than 20 solar-powered cars from 15 other countries, including the current champion, Nuna5 solar car from the Netherlands.
Clocking 4 minutes 22 seconds, the Solar Ranger 1 passed the stringent test which encompassed the speed trial, stability and emergency stop, which was most meaningful to the UNITEN team which went through the critical challenge 48 hours ago.
The university's solar car had suffered a motor and alignment system breakdown, including a broken battery, since it arrived in this country on Wednesday. It was believed to have occurred during the transfer from Sydney to Darwin.
"This is most significant to UNITEN. We qualified to go into the next stage of the race tomorrow after two tiring days," team manager Associate Prof Halil Hussain told Bernama while showing the number plate 'SUN 10', signifying that the team was eligible to proceed with the race tomorrow.
