Dave, that's awesome. I wish Texas weren't 100 years behind the times when it came to that type of thing. I'd love to be able to charge my electric bike at a bookstore. That would most likely get me to a bookstore, instead of buying all of my books from Amazon. BTW, you forgot Bob's last name, Schlesinger. I'd love to meet ol' Bob Schlesinger. He seems like my kind of guy.

Thank you for catching that I forgot Bobs last name, I edit the post. We Tucsonans just know him as Bob from bookmans

I am really excited about all the new charing station we will be having here soon. Can't have electric vehicles with out charging stations. I am really excited about the ones that will be from here to Phoenix.

That will final give EV owners the option of using there vehicle for longer distances. Phoenix will soon have many charging stations as well. This in my opinion is a big step for our nation for the future of electric vehicles. Someones has got to do it first to have other communities follow.

One thing I would like to see is solar powered EV charging stations, don't know if that is doable but with as much sunshine we have here in Arizona it is something I would like to see.

I cant wait for the new Nissan Leaf to get here. Maybe I can go down and do a test drive and do a nice review of the vehicle.

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - A sleek glimpse of the future in downtown Wednesday showed off how electric car technology could soon be our reality.

"I always was very keen on new technology," Eddie Gloyne said as he sat in his electric Tesla roadster.

"This is going to be the standard connector for all of the new cars," said Scott Saffian with Coulomb Technologies as he held up an SAE J1772 plug at the end of the cord coming from a ChargePoint Network station.

The Nissan Leaf is scheduled to hit our streets late next year.

"We have to make sure that the infrastructure is in place to charge those vehicles before the vehicle gets here," said Colleen Crowninshield, Clean Cities manager for Pima Association of Governments.

Providing hundreds of stations could keep charge times down to more like one hour instead of three.

"We expect to see them at malls, at movie theaters, any kind of place where people go to for some group of time, topping off the battery," Safian said.

Current auto industry is also changing. AAA has given three more BrakeMax locations "Green Shop" certification.

"It's safer for the environment, it's safer for the people working with the machine," said store manager Don Allred.

But washing parts and tools with re-filtered water instead of solvent and recycling oil filters and used fluids comes with a price.

"There is definitely an investment in going green," Allred said.

"If you really want something, you've got a passion for something to happen, but you are going to take the risks, and perhaps you are investing in that passion," Gloyne said.

And climbing into the Tesla has been a labor of love.

"So it's not easy to make that investment, but I actually love driving it," Gloyne said.

As many as 500 of the Nissan Leaf could be in the area next year. The charging stations need to start being set up by April or May.
